Frederick Half-Marathon in 5 Days!

Wow! I can't believe the Frederick half-marathon in is FIVE DAYS! May 7th, 2011! I definitely have some mixed emotions about the half-marathon, which range from super excited to nervous! Let me explain!

I am super excited about this half-marathon for a few reasons:

1) It is my first half-marathon. Even though I have already ran a marathon, this is still my first half and the way you mentally prepare for a half-marathon is WAY different from the way you prepare for a full marathon. You only have half the distance to run!

2) This is my first race in a new age group! Three days before this race, I turn...30!

3) Even though Rob is running the half-marathon as well, we have decided that he is going to let me run this by myself, as part of my birthday present!

4) We are running a 5K (3.1 miles) after the half-marathon as well! This is part of a challenge that the Frederick Running Festival is putting on, and rightfully called, The Nut Job Challenge!

Now, even with all of this excitement, I am still a little nervous for this half-marathon for a couple of reasons!

1) It is only FIVE days away! The closer it gets the more you think about it and everything that is associated with it.

2) Even though I have been having some really great training runs, I hurt my back last week and it is making it very difficult to run. It is extremely painful, but I am hoping that with rest this week and no running, that it will be feeling 100% by Saturday! It is feeling better today than it was yesterday, so I am really trying not to stress about it, as I am doing everything I possibly can to make it feel better by Saturday. Rest is the key!

3) I have a goal in mind for this half-marathon, and I REALLY want to reach this goal. I truly believe that I can do it, and I am hoping my back will allow me to do so! But, believe me, my back is NOT going to keep me from trying to reach this goal.

Tuesday, May 3rd, I go and pick up our race packets! Can't wait!
